Description

S.N.E.E.K. was founded in 1987 by Mr. DeVo! and Zero V. The name of the band stands for: Streven Naar Een Echt Kunstwerk (Striving for a real work of art). Before S.N.E.E.K. they where playing and recording covers from ‘Stevie Wonder’ to ‘Doe Maar’ – both Mr. DeVo! and Zero V still have boxes with recorded material from that period. Which made them understand how to produce music and from there on they developed their own unique recording process.

Before S.N.E.E.K. they also created two short films; The Film (1985) and What is a chick without lipstick (1986). We have created a photo page, so you’ll get an idea of the takes.

Their process of making, recording and producing music was very simple. They recorded their base layer on a tape and in the second take they recorded all the other stuff. Most songs where written on the fly, although some of the songs took quite some practicing and rewriting before they were actually recorded.

In 1988 they started the recording of their highly acclaimed debut release; Iets Anders Graag (Something Else Please). A weird combination of pop, punk, new wave and new beat songs. Lyrics both being Dutch and English.

After the recording sessions for Iets Anders Graag they just went on writing, playing, recording and producing new songs, which eventually evolved in their second album: Words From The Front. Again the same mixture of sounds, songs and genres.

After these 2 releases they started out with new material but gradually lost interest in pursueing the chosen direction. What’s left is Secrets of a 3rd Dimension, which was released later, although it was already finished. Both Mr. DeVo! and Zero V moved on in different projects. It wasn’t until late 2005 that they decided to start working together again on the same project; Kafka’s Penal Colony.
