The Year 2005
ON-Mix productions: the year 2005 in brief…
January 2005
We were all going on with our lives, like nothing happened. Not knowing what the near future would bring us. Henk was doing his thing with Cybernauts, Arjen was working his ass off at Despec’s and Mike was trying to make a living with … hmmm well … something.
February 2005
At the eclipse of a moment during pure and delighted insanity Henk and Mike decided to put their old music stuff online and give it a name. Just for fun. Thus we have the birth of ON-Mix productions. Life would never be the same.
Within a few days we had the first version of our site online.
Henk made a phonecall to Arjen to ask if it would be okay to put the old S.N.E.E.K. material online as well. Why not dulge ourselves in tape-hiss and other noises. Just fun remember?
March 2005
Being infected with this new virus Mike (by now he likes to be called Ekim, only God knows why) erupted the idea of creating a special song that Arjen and Henk could remix. Meanwhile the site had transformed into a portal where it was easier to put music online for download purposes (imagina an overwhelming amount of arrogance, thinking that somebody would be willing to download this stuff, a Colt 45 performed miracles…). Still seeing this as a great joke, we all went on with out pityfull lives.
April 2005
Ekim releases Triple 10. Celebrating the 10 years we know each other, you see marketing never was our turf. Arjen and Henk created some wild and over the top remixes for this one. Since the three of us thought we had something to say we all started a weblog on the site. Spreading the Word, proclaiming the be members of the Southern Baptist Convention. In our weblogs we all announce new and upcoming work. Like Mike, Henk changed his name to Zero V and Arjen trying to convince the world that Devo is a great band (which they are…) and now only responses when you address him as Mr. DeVo!
May 2005
Triple 10 appears to be a small success. Small, but still a success.
The imaginary pats on our shoulders fuel us to go forward with ON-Mix productions. Where Mr. DeVo! and Zero V both work very hard on their upcoming releases.
June 2005
Ekim claims that he no longer can handle the pressure of being a star and leaves ON-Mix. Arjen and Henk smash their heads on the wall and wonder WHY?
Zero V releases his first album on the ON-Mix label. After Arjen and Henk pulled themselves together again they decide that the future of ON-Mix will be that of a netlabel. Thus giving other artists the opportunity to join the label. Untill today nobody came up with a good explanation why they do…
Most of the back catalogue of Arjen and Henk is put online. Henk creates a mashup of a song of Duran Duran and Donna Summer called: I Feel the Sound of Thunder. Truly a collectors item since this one never has been released. It must be somewhere in the dark alleys on his harddisc.
July 2005
Nobody has seen Mike for a month, maybe he is hitchhiking on the flow of his live. Daytime jobs of Arjen and Henk slow down the process of ON-Mix (still not quite sure of this is good or bad…). First internet broadcast of ON-Mix is a fact. Arjen and Henk being the only listeners. Both accept production work for other artists, giving a boost to ON-Mix this way. Mike pops up again and rejoins ON-Mix. We think he just wanted to be the first artist being signed to the netlabel ON-Mix. Arjen and Henk immediately follow.
August 2005
Discussions on how ON-Mix will look in the future kick off this month. Exciting and overheated boardmeetings are being held, while more albums are being released. In the meantime is Arjen remixing songs from Depeche Mode.
September 2005
A new colourfull version of the ON-Mix site sees the light of day.
At that time representing what we were working on and how we felt about things. Although rumours at the time hint at another, more underground, direction, this is the chosen path. We get more and more tangled up in the fuss of running a netlabel.
October 2005
More artists join ON-Mix and want to release new material. Monthly hits on the site reach an all time high. Loads of beer, cigarettes and other enlightment create an atmosphere of bewilderment that doesn’t seem to stop. Meanwhile, back in the jungle, preparations start for a live gig which is going to be broadcasted via the internet.
November 2005
Plans te make ON-Mix a professional digital label start falling into place, fuelled by a business associate who made Henk an offer he couldn’t refuse. They assured ON-Mix would be part of the deal. Thus providing them with the right people and stuff they need. There’s a hype around Boy In Trouble, the band who’ll be performing live on the internet. Girly, one of ON-Mix’ contributors, gets lost during an interview with the band. We wonder if this has something to do with Natalia Cumerinski, an artist who recently has joined ON-Mix. We decide to release an album with the various artists of ON-Mix as a closure of 2005.
December 2005
Nearly the end of this year. A time for reflection and a time to look ahead. Boy In Trouble gigging on the internet, successfully. More and more people now know how to find us. Strange thing, since we have not spend an Euro on marketing. The playfully excitement of ON-Mix attracts a lot of visitors. Plans for a new site emerge on a storyboard, to be done early 2006. At the end of December the air is pregnant of the sheer crazyness that has formed ON-Mix reaches a peek, knowing of the things that will happen in 2006. Making 2005 a year never to forget. We’re all looking forward to 2006!
