The Year 2006
ON-Mix Media: the year 2006 in brief…
January 2006
We are working out our plans for the near future, where ON-Mix productions is being embedded in a larger company. This takes a lot of time from Ekim and Zero V. They have never been this much in bars, restaurants and hotel lobbies (…and they already have a reputation in this field that is unprecedented and hard to live up to!). Zero V, What About Joshua and DJ Thopa release their new material.
February 2006
Ekim and Zero V plan to stop with their daytime jobs, so they can fully focus on the new direction. Although questions arise and answers are being waited for. Nathaly C is releasing her long awaited debut album on the label. For a long time this is going to be the most downloaded album of our netlabel. Our netlabel is now 1 year online!
March 2006
Halfway March Zero V has quit is daytime job. Ekim will follow by the end of March. Now they are completely on their own. These are changing times, a bit uncertain but with renewed energy both take it upon them to create a new company. Meanwhile rumours about the K man start spreading. 7 Bandits is releasing their EP and Oilboy’s Aftersun release their first album on ON-Mix productions.
April 2006
Zero V is busy in the studio creating a new album, it will be ‘Agree to Disagree’. Where the first sessions at the end of 2005 show a more popsong approach, he’s now experimenting again with new sounds. During the Eastern weekend Ekim and Zero V have a meeting with the accountant of the K man, he is assuring them that all plans can proceed as agreed upon (boy what a mistake!!). Mr. DeVo! is working with several bands for their upcoming releases. April 29th, Zero V’s father in law suddenly dies. For the moment recording sessions have stopped. Meanwhile Ekim and Zero V decided that betting on one horse is going to take them anywhere, so they found a manpower company.
May 2006
We are all busy working on new material. We have also started to create myspace pages for the label and their artists. The ON-Mix website is being altered.
June 2006
Rather a quite month. Zero V and Mr. DeVo! record some new material as ‘Kafka’s Penal Colony’. Their first recordings since the late 80s of last century. The air thrills of excitement!
July 2006
Mr. DeVo! is releasing the album ‘Work in Progress’ an overview of the bands he is currently working with. It also means that we can expect a shitload of new releases the coming months. We are genuily excited. Ekim and Zero V are seriously thinking about quitting with the K man. He can’t live up to the promises he has been making over the past few months. It is delay upon delay. This first songs from Zero V’s upcoming album are ready. It is quite a moodswing from his last album ‘Songs of Parting’. Being influenced by the recent turn his life took, he is leaning towards somber and emotive songs.
August 2006
Metamorphosis, a new band founded by Ekim and Zero V is showing the light of day. They are planning on releasing their first album by the end of the year. ‘Agree to Disagree’ is being released.
Ekim and Zero V officially quit with the K man and ON-Mix productions transforms into ON-Mix Media. Plans for adding video and graphics are being put on paper. 7 Bandits release their first album by the end of this month, as well as Woopekken on Baabochjas. We are nearing release number 50 in great speed.
September 2006
Metamorphosis decides that their new album will be called ‘The Van Damage Experience’ based on their encounter with the K man, who turned out to be a huge fraud. For Ekim and Zero V these are the months where they are struggling to survive. Which also means that work on the netlabel is being pushed backwards.
Practitune and Resistranz release new albums.
October 2006
Ekim and Zero V are busy selling their, earlier this year founded, manpower company. This will end their struggle for survive. A new design for the website is also brought online. They have made the design to fit with their plans to add video’s and graphics. We have also moved the website to a new provider where we have more possibilities. ON-Mix Radio also starts broadcasting music from the label. Although this is still an experiment we all decide that somewhere next year this one should be up and running the way we want to.
DJ Thopa and Practitune vs. Mr. DAM release new albums on the netlabel.
November 2006
All dust clouds have reached the ground, so we have a clear view again on how to proceed with the label. Plans to embed the possibility to have people pay for the high quality downloads are being made.
Zero V unexpectly releases an EP ‘The Hard Changing Of The Seasons’, grabbing back to his original influences of jazz.
Spoiled Egg, recently added to the label, also release their debut album called ‘Rotten Fruit Basket’ and the Natashas release their long awaited album called ‘Old School’.
December 2006
The end of another year. One that has brought us a lot to deal with. Older, sadder and wiser we are looking forward to 2007. We don’t have huge expactations for this year, we hope we can continue to built ON-Mix Media as a netlabel. We have decided to focus more on artists and releases, our most precious asset so far.
Straight Component release their new album called ‘Enjoy Your Freedom’ and Ekim releases number 50 called ‘Straight From The Heart’ which basically says it all!!!
