5th album by this band. This time a dark-ambient, industrial work of art.They started of with songs from the Grinding Matter sessions of Zero V. Being more 7 Bandits material than Zero V material. They’ve re-recorded most of the songs.

Kicking off with ‘Otherworld Journey’, a LoFi piece of work that has the 7 Bandits trademark all over it. The second song ‘Ghost and Divining Rod’ is a dark-ambient, industrial track. A songs that is growing on you after several listening sessions. Built upon drones and a detuned piano. Sigil Machine is actually the only piece of music that stayed the way it is, from the Grinding Matter sessions of Zero V. Psychic Investigator has a more uptempo feel to it, but then again it’s a 7 Bandits song…Ghost Cells ends this journey.

This is the 4th release by the 7 Bandits.

Although producers Zero V and DJ PulseID’s tertiary relationship to the experimental electronic scene is revealed in the naivety of some of the arrangements, they more than make up for it in the production, which is nothing short of shimmering. And while many of the tracks fall into a somewhat static mold of ambient experiments explored years earlier by artists such as Speedy J and Biosphere, the group’s knack for hand-painted sounds and deep atmospherics makes for an extremely listenable update.

Description

7 Bandits is the dark side of Zero V. For recording purposes and live gigs he is surrounded by friends like: Captain Chaos, Dr. Awesome, Sticks and The Drummer. The band was founded in 2005.

In March 2006 they released their eclectic debut EP: The Brufolk Equation. Building on their persistance to perform every song live they have created an album that is moody, atmospheric and exploring the outer skirts of music. As they say, they have been blown away by the response of the public for this album. It has given them new energy to further persue their chosen path.

In August 2006 they released their first full album on the ON-Mix label; A Flock of Dream Tokens.

What will happen in the next few years is quite uncertain, but one thing is sure; 7 Bandits will keep on surprising us with their music.

Release notes

The third album by 7 Bandits headed by label co-founder Zero V further explores the 7 Bandits concept. There’s more of a coherent sound now, featuring Zero V and remixer DJ PulseID. The 1 track album is entirely instrumental (given the traditional 7 Bandits treatment of layers of echo, reverb, and phasing), which is pleasant enough and memorable.

The track continues the debut’s trend of intriguing and fascinatingly drones, ranging from the heavy use of the Moog and radiowaves to distorted drums, apparently from the bottom of a very deep well. Each of them integrated in the unique 7 Bandits style.

Influences to be noted are Nine Inch Nails, Cocteau Twins, Boards of Canada and This Mortal Coil.

The album is more focused than A Flock of Dream Tokens. The Darkest of Dreaming is an inspired follow-up.
